These qualifications are the first of their kind to address hybrid electric vehicles’ technologies.  They are required to ensure the safety of technicians working on high voltage hybrid vehicles.

These qualifications were developed as the result of the demand from hybrid vehicle manufacturers for a qualification for their technicians.  IMI Awards, IMI Automotive Skills SSC and manufacturers have developed these qualifications collaboratively.

These qualifications can be taken as standalone qualifications, as part of the technical training offered by vehicle hybrid vehicle manufacturers. They may also be offered by FE colleges and private training providers if they have the correct resources.

In addition, these qualifications provide knowledge and skills essential for members of the emergency services, who may attend an accident involving a high voltage hybrid vehicle.

This qualification is suitable for competent MAC technicians who have completed a previous qualification, which can include 'in-house' training or have experience in working on MAC systems.  These MAC technicians must already have a good understanding of components and the system operation to carry out servicing procedures relating to air conditioning systems.
Achievement of this qualification allows experienced MAC technicians to continue to practice after 4th July 2010.
